Wow! It’s already the 14th of January -time flies… the older I get the more meaningful that phrase becomes. Being the goal setter and planner that I am, I usually come bounding into the new year with Ultimate Scenarios and lists in hand -bring it on! This year is different… in fact, the reason I haven’t posted about New Year intentions until today is because for the first time in many years I really wasn’t sure what the goals were going to be. I couldn’t wrap my brain around what it was I wanted to have accomplished by the end of this year, so I decided to just let it go and see what happened.
The phrase that kept (and keeps) popping into my head is “slow and easy”. I realize that I need to take 2013 on in a deliberate way but also in a slow and easy way – more time in prayer and meditation, more time relaxing and connecting with the special people in my life, more time just being in the moment. Don’t get me wrong -I’ve got a lot to do, but I’m just not going to go at it full steam ahead like I usually do. So here’s some of what’s on my list:
- Work on two books that have been on the back burner for awhile
- Ramp up my personal wellness … more focus on meal planning, cooking at home and a consistent workout routine.
- Get this blog really going -I have so many ideas for it!
- Get a consistent meditation practice going – learn to just sit still and listen!
- Mastermind with others
- Take my coaching practice to the next level (that’s always on the list)
- Spend more time in service to others
I have to say here that I know, and I mean I really, really know, that this is going to be a great year for me and for you. In fact, I believe that if we just do the footwork this year, one step at a time, one day at a time, we will reap the rewards one hundred fold – this is a year of prosperity. Watch and see! The fact is we will either be better off or worse off than we are right now at the end of this year – we most likely won’t stay the same. I plan to be better off. What about you?
So what about goals? We all know the SMART goal formula, make sure your goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely. Make sure goals are consistent with your stated personal values and your long term Ultimate Scenario. It’s important to set just a few goals (don’t do what I do and set too many) you can always set some more when these are accomplished. Make sure you have some built in structures and accountability.
